Celebrating Growth and Connection in Sudbury

Ontario Trillium Foundation grant SUPPORTS LAND-BASED SPORT FOR INDIGENOUS YOUTH

A community gathering in Sudbury on February 18, 2026 to celebrate land-based sport and play.

In Sudbury, the land has a story to tell and more Indigenous youth are becoming part of it.

Thanks to a $372,100 GROW grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Spirit North is expanding land-based sport and play programs for Indigenous youth across the region.

On February 18, 2026, we gathered at Walden Cross Country Ski Club, beginning with a traditional blessing by Elder Art Petahtegoose, to reflect on the progress of this two-year journey alongside local featured in Sudbury.com, leaders.

We were honoured to see this celebration featured in Sudbury.com, highlighting the importance of land-based play for the health and wellness of our Indigenous youth.

As our Regional Co-ordinator, Finn Thomas, shared:

"By connecting children to the joy of being outdoors, we are fostering confidence and community connections that will last a lifetime."
